RESPOND: Active Shooter Emergency Response

Preparation. Decision-Making. Survival.

An active shooter incident can develop in seconds, leaving little time to decide what to do. RESPOND is designed to give participants a practical understanding of how to recognize, respond to, and survive an active threat.

This course focuses on emergency decision-making rather than simply reacting to an event. Students learn the principles of Run, Hide, Fight, how to identify escape options, how to respond when evacuation isn’t possible, how to communicate critical information to 911, and what to expect when law enforcement arrives.

The course also introduces basic emergency medical response, including techniques for controlling life-threatening bleeding until professional medical assistance arrives. The FBI’s active-shooter preparedness training incorporates both Run, Hide, Fight and bleeding-control concepts.

Topics Include:

  • Understanding active-threat situations

  • Situational awareness and recognizing potential escape routes

  • Run, Hide, Fight decision-making

  • Emergency evacuation principles

  • Lockdown and barricading concepts

  • Communicating with 911

  • What to expect when law enforcement arrives

  • Responding to injured individuals

  • Life-threatening bleeding and basic bleeding control

  • Emergency preparedness and personal response planning

  • Post-incident considerations

Who Should Attend?

This course is appropriate for responsible adults, firearm owners and non-firearm owners alike. No firearm experience is required.

The objective is simple:

Recognize the threat. Make a decision. Take action. Get home.
